Basically The humans have this kind of reaper like ability to get a monsters soul, and then they eat it. For a human. Eating a monsters soul gave them power along with the more souls gained and eaten the more social status you got. and whether the power was increased strength, pyrotechnic ability's or psychic ability's the humans couldn't get enough. They looked down on the monsters as an inferior species. The king and queen of the monsters made a rash decision and decided the best way to protect themselves and there people was to use there magic and hide underground and lock themselves away from the humans.
